New-"A Quiet Moment"

Fresh off the drawing board is my latest lion portrait. These iconic cats are irresistible to me as an artist so I never tire of drawing or painting them. I have spent so many hours out in the African bush watching them lazing under a tree, feeding or playing and have an abundance of great reference photos so I am always keen to create another artwork. This time I chose a reflective pose as this lion and his brother had fed overnight and were relaxed and contented in the early morning and this is the quieter side of the lion that I wished to portray. Following is some step by step images of my process as the drawing developed to the final finished artwork. I used Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils on Arches aquarelle paper at 300gsm.
